Brief
During a hackathon that concluded my first year of the master’s program at Digital Campus, we collaborated with the emergency department of the Saint-Antoine Hospital in Paris to digitalize their internal tools. Our task was to address a daily challenge faced by the "coordinating doctor": the manual creation of assignment files for the emergency staff. This document communicates not only which position each healthcare professional is assigned to but also which pager they can be reached on. Each morning, this doctor had to print and post these documents in multiple locations. In case of any unforeseen circumstances, they would need to modify the file on the computer, reprint it, and post it again, which slowed down the essential work of the emergency team. Sometimes, audible announcements were necessary, further disrupting the service.
We designed a prototype mobile application that allows emergency staff to view their colleagues' assignments and their own tasks in real time. The application also featured a digital directory of all employees in the department and provided access to shared resources such as studies, reports, and protocols. Additionally, we integrated a notification system to quickly alert staff in case of changes.
We developed an interface for coordinators and administrators, enabling them to update staff assignments from a computer or mobile device. This interface allowed for real-time modifications, eliminating the need to reprint and repost files, thereby streamlining the process and minimizing interruptions for the medical teams.
